Mackay Issac Tourism is encouraging us Queenslander’s to ‘Discover our Home this Summer’ - and we’re getting on board! We have compiled a list of must-see attractions to do this Summer in Mackay with your family, friends and other loved ones.
Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens
Enjoy a relaxed, family-friendly locale with beautiful gardens, art exhibitions and a cafe with deck seating. Choose to have a guided tour or simply stroll through at your own leisure.
Visit some of Australia’s best beaches
It can be easy to forget that we get to call some of the best beaches in the world our backyard. With plenty to choose from in Mackay, a beach day is a perfect way to spend this summer. Some of the most popular beaches are the Northern Beaches, which includes Eimeo Beach, Dolphin Heads and Bucasia Beach.
Or, if you’d prefer to explore some hidden gem beaches we’ve got you covered. A local favourite is Campwin beach, it will blow you away with views of the Coral Point Reef and stunning picnic spots. Another must-see is Sunset Bay, watch the sunset in paradise surrounded by palm trees and grassy lookout areas.
Please remember to practice water safety. In the Summer months, stingers are presence and you should only swim in beaches with stinger nets are Seaforth Beach, Bucasia Beach, Halliday Bay, Mackay Harbour.
Speed Boat Tours on Airlie Beach
Explore our beautiful shoreline by snorkelling alongside protected reefs, bask in the sun and discover wildlife. Snorkelling gear, flotation devices, and a buffet lunch are included in most options. A 30-minute boat ride with daring stunts will get your adrenalin pumping, while a full-day tour on a motorized raft will allow even more time to check out all the secluded spots swirling with colourful marine life.
Catch the sunrise with the roos at Cape Hillsborough
Experience a breathtaking sunrise with some furry friends at Cape Hillsborough. There are also butterflies - with over 25 species fluttering around!
Bluewater Trail Public Art
Stroll through the Mackay City Centre and explore the iconic art installations, created by very talented Australians. Whether you are a creator, artist, or just enjoy the beauty of art, there is plenty to discover in the Mackay City Centre.
The Bluewater Lagoon is situated overlooking the Pioneer River in the centre of Mackay. You won’t be able to miss the string of three outdoor pools that in total add up to more than three Olympic-sized swimming pools. This free-admission water park, featuring slides, a kid’s splash zone, plus a cafe and showers is the perfect place to spend summer. Take the kids or have some adult time as each pool is configured for a different age group. Open from 9.00am-5.45pm.
